1. About this policy
Dead Shut products are sold by Lodestar International Limited, which operates deadshut.com. In this policy, “Dead Shut”, “Lodestar International Limited”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to that website operator.
We handle personal information in accordance with this policy and applicable privacy law, including the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply to us.
Privacy questions can be sent to hello@deadshut.com.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- your name, email address, telephone number and company name;
- billing and delivery details;
- order details, transaction references and payment status;
- messages, support requests, reviews and other correspondence;
- door photographs, site details and other information supplied for a fit check or volume quote;
- records of returns, refunds, complaints and consumer-guarantee claims; and
- technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, pages viewed, timestamps and basic security logs.
Stripe processes payment card information. We receive transaction information needed to manage the order, but we do not intentionally collect or store your complete card number or card security code.
We do not generally ask for sensitive information. Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely necessary and we have agreed to receive it.
3. How we collect information
We usually collect information directly from you when you:
- place an order or use a Stripe checkout;
- submit a Netlify form or request volume pricing;
- email us a fit-check photograph or support request;
- contact us by telephone, email or another approved channel; or
- provide feedback, a review or a consumer claim.
Some technical information is collected automatically by our website host, security tools and payment provider. We may also receive delivery updates from carriers and transaction or fraud-prevention information from Stripe.
4. Why we use it
We may collect, hold, use and disclose personal information to:
- provide fit advice, quotes and customer support;
- accept payment, fulfil orders and arrange delivery;
- manage returns, refunds, product issues and legal rights;
- verify transactions and help prevent fraud or misuse;
- maintain, secure and improve our website, products and service;
- keep business, tax and compliance records;
- send service messages about an enquiry or order;
- send marketing where you have consented or where permitted by law; and
- comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
If we cannot collect information that is reasonably necessary, we may be unable to process an order, deliver a product, confirm fit or respond properly to your request.
5. Who we disclose it to
We may disclose relevant personal information to service providers that help us operate, including:
- Stripe and payment, fraud-prevention and financial service providers;
- Netlify and other website hosting, form-processing and security providers;
- delivery, freight and fulfilment providers;
- email, cloud storage, customer support and business software providers;
- installers or advisers where you ask us to coordinate with them;
- accountants, insurers, lawyers and other professional advisers; and
- regulators, courts, law enforcement and government bodies where required or authorised by law.
We may also disclose information as part of a genuine sale, restructure or transfer of the business, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal requirements.
We do not sell or rent personal information to data brokers.
6. Overseas processing
Some service providers are based outside Australia or use systems located overseas. This means personal information may be processed in the United States and other countries where Stripe, Netlify or their service providers operate.
The countries involved can change as provider infrastructure changes. Where required, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle personal information consistently with applicable Australian privacy requirements. You can contact us for current information about material overseas disclosures relevant to your information.
7. Cookies and website data
Our website may use essential cookies or similar technologies needed for security, forms and checkout. Stripe and Netlify may also process device and usage information to provide their services, prevent fraud and keep the site secure.
At the date of this policy, we do not use advertising cookies on deadshut.com. If we add non-essential analytics or advertising tools, we will update this policy and provide any notice or consent controls required by law.
You can control cookies through your browser, but blocking essential technologies may affect checkout or form functionality.
8. Storage, retention and security
Personal information may be stored in our business systems and in systems operated by our service providers. We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information.
No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure. If a data breach occurs, we will investigate and take the notification steps required by applicable law.
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including order support, product claims, fraud prevention, tax, accounting and legal requirements. When it is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
9. Access and correction
You may ask to access personal information we hold about you or request that inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading information be corrected.
Email hello@deadshut.com with enough detail for us to identify the relevant information. We may need to verify your identity. We will respond within a reasonable period and explain any lawful reason why access or correction cannot be provided.
10. Marketing choices
You can opt out of marketing at any time using the unsubscribe option in a message or by emailing us. We may still send non-marketing messages needed to manage an active enquiry, order, safety notice or legal obligation.
11. Privacy complaints
If you believe we have mishandled personal information, email hello@deadshut.com with the details. We will acknowledge the complaint, investigate it and aim to provide a response within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
12. Other privacy policies
Our service providers have their own privacy information. You can read the Stripe Privacy Policy and Netlify Privacy Statement. Their policies govern information they handle for their own purposes.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services, providers or legal obligations change. The current version will be published here with a revised “last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in another reasonable way.
